BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana men's tennis team has been selected as one of the top-60 teams in the nation to participate in the 2016 ITA Division I Kick-Off Weekend, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Thursday.
By virtue of a draft process the Hoosiers will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. in one of 15 regional sites with four teams in each regional.
The Hoosiers regional features No. 11 North Carolina as the No. 1 seed, No. 32 Drake as the No. 2 seed, No. 39 North Carolina State as the No. 3 seed and No. 46 Indiana as the No. 4 seed.
"We are fortunate to be selected for this event and we put ourselves in this position by having a successful 2014-15 season," IU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. "We are excited to go to Chapel Hill and play a quality opponent in North Carolina and we look to start our season on a positive note."
The Hoosiers will take on North Carolina in their first match and play either Drake or NC State in their second match. The 15 schools that win both of their matches will be invited to play in the 2016 ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championship hosted by the University of Virginia from Feb. 12-15.
The Hoosiers finished the 2014 season with an 18-11 overall record and 6-5 mark in Big Ten play. The Hoosiers wins matched their best total since the 2012-13 season. Junior Sam Monette won the 2014 ITA Summer National Singles Championships and was a Second Team All-Big Ten Honoree. Freshman Raheel Manji led the Hoosiers with 18 singles wins and was recently selected as a member of Team Canada for the World University Games this summer.
