Batemon Wins Big Ten Championship

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- With three competitors remaining in the men's pole vault and each missing their first two attempts, junior Terry Batemon was calm and knew what he had to do.

On his final attempt, Batemon ran down the runway and vaulted himself up and over the bar at 5.36m (17'7") to win his first Big Ten Championship.

With his clearance, Batemon added to a rich tradition of Indiana men's and women's pole vault that has now produced seven Big Ten pole vault titles in the last eight years.
