Hunter Makes 1500 Field For NCAA Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Senior Rorey Hunter qualified for his second straight NCAA Championship in the 1,500m run on the final day at the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla.
Hunter competed in the second of two heats of the quarterfinals and sprinted to the finish to earn a spot in the NCAA Championships. Hunter had the third fastest last lap in his heat and finished sixth in 3:45.19. The top six spots in the heat were separated by .23 seconds.
Hunter, who finished in second-place at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, will make his second straight trip to Eugene, Ore., for the NCAA Championships.
Freshman Jill Whitman finished 13th in the 5,000m run in a career-best time of 16:14.98. Whitman's time is the third best in IU school history.
The Hoosiers qualified three student-athletes for the NCAA Championships with Amanda Behnke (10,000m run), Terry Batemon (Pole Vault) and Rorey Hunter (1,500m). The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be contested June 10-13 in Eugene, Ore.
