Hoosiers Travel to East Lansing for Big Ten Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana track and field team will depart Wednesday for East Lansing, Mich., for the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 15-17 on the campus of Michigan State.
Competition will start on Friday at 12:00 p.m. with the decathlon and heptathlon and also include the 10,000m finals. The multis competition will resume Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by several field events and trials of track events as well as finals of the 3,000m steeplechase. Competition will conclude on Sunday with the day starting at 11:00 a.m. with the women's triple jump.
The Hoosiers had five athletes earn medals for top-three finishes at the Big Ten Indoor Championships earlier this season, highlighted by an 800m championship by sophomore Tre'tez Kinnaird. Kinnaird and teammateDaniel Kuhn currently hold the second and third best times in the Big Ten in the 800m (Kuhn 1:47.80, Kinnaird, 1:47.91).
The pole vault was successful for the Hoosiers at the Big Ten Indoor meet with Sophie Gutermuth and Sydney Clute taking second and third and Terry Batemon finishing third in the men's pole vault. Gutermuth comes in with the second best mark in the Big Ten (4.35m) and Batemon holds the third best mark as well (5.25m).
In the heptathlon indoors Stephen Keller finished in third-place and Dylan Anderson finished in fourth-place. Keller comes in with the second best mark in decathlon and Anderson holds the third best point total. At the Texas Relays this season Keller set the sixth best point total in school history (7149) and Anderson set the seventh best total (7049) in program history.
The Hoosiers also return the Big Ten Champion at 1500m from a season ago in senior Rorey Hunter. Last year Hunter gave the Hoosiers their fourth straight men's 1500m Big Ten title.
Indiana currently holds 29 times or marks that rank in the top-10 in the conference, 14 of which rank in the top five. Nakel McClinton, who improved on her school record in the hammer throw to 60.81m comes in with the third best mark in the conference. McClinton finished in fourth-place in the weight throw at the Big Ten Indoor Championships. Andrew Miller and Dyrek Chowning also hold top-10 conference marks in the hammer and discus events.
