IU Alums Set for USA Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Seven former IU track and field student-athletes will compete this week at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. Brenna Calder and Jill Whitman, who just wrapped up their freshman season will compete in the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships.

Molly Ludlow (800m) First Round Thursday June 25, 6:40 p.m. ET
At IU Molly finished runner-up at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 800m. Last year Molly, who had a personal best of 1:59.12, earned the Bronze Medal at the Indoor and Outdoor USA Championships in the 800m. At the World Relays this year Molly was part of the US team that won gold and set an American Record in the 4X800m relay.
Kind Butler III (400m) First Round Thursday June 25, 7:45 p.m. ET
Kind Butler III was on the U.S. team that won a gold medal and set a world record in the 1,600-meter relay at the 2014 World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland. At IU Kind was a two-time Big Ten Champion in the 200m and seven-time All-American, competing in individual sprint events and relays.
Andy Bayer (3K Steeplechase) First Round Friday June 26, 9:10 p.m. ET
Andy Bayer won the 2012 NCAA Outdoor 1,500m title and ranks third in IU history in all-time NCAA points scored with 55. Bayer holds the Indiana school record in the 1,500m of 3:34.37 and had a best steeplechase time of 8:25.71 this season, which ranks sixth best in the country. Bayer took gold for Team USA at the NACAC U-23 Championships in Guanijuato, Mexico, winning the 5,000m by 15 seconds. Bayer scored 26 points at the 2012 Big Ten Indoor Championships to help the Hoosiers secure the title.
Sarah Pease (3K Steeplechase) First Round Thursday June 25, 10:05 p.m. ET
At IU, Pease was a two-time All-American in the steeplechase with a best finish of fourth-place at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships, where she set an IU school record that still stands of 9:56.31. Pease went on to be the top collegiate runner at the USA Track and Field Championships in her junior year. Pease has a best time of 9:48.94 in the steeplechase this season.
Monique Riddick (Shot Put) Finals Thursday June 25, 9:25 p.m. ET
At IU Riddick earned All-America honors at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships with a 13th place finish in the shot put. Riddick ranks third in IU history in the shot put and has a best mark of 17.57m this season. Riddick finished in sixth-place at the USA Indoor Championships this season.
Jeff Coover (Pole Vault) Finals Saturday June 27, 2:50 p.m. ET
At IU Coover was a four-time All-American with three finishes in the top-five. His best came at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships with a third-place finish. Coover comes into the competition with a best of 5.68, which ranks sixth. Coover finished in third-place at the USA Indoor Championships this season.
Scott Houston (Pole Vault) Finals Saturday June 27, 2:50 p.m. ET
Scott is a volunteer coach with the Hoosiers and has cleared 5.51m indoors, and finished 4th at the USA Indoor National Meet. Recent at the Vault in the Ville event Houston cleared a career-best of 5.62m. He also trains in the multi events, and has competed in the heptathlon with a mark of 4496 to gain experience. He trains with Olympian/2012 Bronze Medalist and IU alum Derek Drouin, who is also a volunteer coach with the Hoosiers.
