Monette, Bednarczyk Earn Big Ten Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Prior to the start of the Big Ten Men's Tennis Tournament the conference announced their All-Conference Teams and individual award honorees. Junior Sam Monette earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors and his doubles teammate junior Daniel Bednarczyk earned the Sportsmanship Award.
Monette posted a 14-14 record in dual match play at No. 1 singles for the Hoosiers this season with three wins against ranked opponents. At No. 1 doubles with Bednarczyk the duo tallied a 14-13 record on the season, including a 7-4 mark in Big Ten play.
"Sam has been a key player for us this season," IU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. "He has stepped up and been a leader and we always know he is going to give maximum effort on the court."
Bednarczyk posted a 15-11 record at No. 2 singles in dual match play, including a 6-4 mark in Big Ten singles.
"I'm proud of Daniel earning the sportsmanship award," Wurtzman said. "Dan is very steady on the court and has been vital to our success this season."
The Hoosiers open Big Ten Tournament play as the No. 5 seed and take on No. 12 Purdue on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. ET.
