Tong Named First Team All-B1G

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University senior golfer Elizabeth Tong is a first-team All-Big Ten selection, the conference office announced Tuesday.
In addition Tong was named the Hoosiers' Sportsmanship Award honoree.
Tong has competed in every event for Indiana this season, leading the team with a 73.53 stroke average over 28 rounds of play. She has tallied four top-10 finishes, including top-five finishes in two of her last three tournaments. She was the second-place finisher at the Lady Buckeye Invitational two weeks ago, earning Big Ten Player of the Week accolades.
Tong is the first Hoosier to earn first-team All-Big Ten honors since Shannon Johnson in 2006.
Overall this season Tong has finished in the top 25 at seven of 10 events. It was announced Monday night that she has earned an individual spot at the NCAA South Bend Regional, where she will compete May 7-9 hoping to earn a spot at the NCAA Championships, May 22-27 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida.
This past weekend Tong finished tied for 41st at the Big Ten Championships, including her lowest round ever in Big Ten Championship competition with a 72 on Friday. This season she has matched her career low score of 68 four times.
Tong has qualified for the NCAA Women's Golf Regional and will compete as an individual May 7-9 at the South Bend Regional in Notre Dame, Indiana.
