BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The fifth-seeded Indiana women's tennis team will begin Big Ten Tournament play on Friday, April 24 against fourth-seeded Penn State at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT. This year's tourney will be hosted by Northwestern in Evanston Ill.
The tournament bracket features the top 10 teams from the regular season Big Ten standings. The top six seeds are placed directly into the quarterfinals on Friday as seeds 7-10 play on Thursday to earn their way into the final eight.
IU (ranked No. 47 nationally) finished the regular season schedule with a 16-7 record overall and a 7-4 mark in conference play. The Hoosiers caught fire in the last few weeks by winning four-straight matches to end the regular season and five out of their last six. Indiana's No. 5 seed is the program's best tournament seed since 2010 and its seven Big Ten victories are the most since 2008.
Penn State bested the Hoosiers when the two teams met on March 27 in Happy Valley, 4-3. IU clinched the doubles point to start that match, but PSU won each of the first four singles matches that were completed to take the victory.
The Nittany Lions (ranked No. 48 nationally) sit at 12-10 on the year and finished conference play with an 8-3 mark. Penn State has won eight out of its last nine matches coming into the weekend.
