The Hoosiers signed Noëlle Rother and Nora Aucker to National Letters of Intent
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana field hockey has announced two additional signees for the 2015 class, goalkeeper Noëlle Rother and midfielder/defender Nora Aucker. The two players will join fall signees Claire Woods and Taylor Swope on the 2015 roster.
"Our incoming class for 2015 will provide some depth and positive energy for the fall season," said head coach Amanda Janney. "I'm looking forward to seeing these four compete for playing time and help build on the strengths of our current team. These four new student-athletes will mesh well with the athleticism and the competitiveness of our squad."
Noëlle Rother • Goalkeeper • Hamburg, Germany
Rother is a U21 German National Team Member, where she helped the team to a second place finish in the 2014 U21 European Championships. In 2013, the Hamburg native was instrumental in the U18 team's first place finish in the 4-Nations-Cup in Lilleshall, England.
For her leadership in guiding the team to a variety of third-place finishes in the National Youth Championships, Rother was named the Best Goalkeeper at the tournament in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
"Noelle is fantastic addition to our team," said Janney. "She is a top goalkeeper who has been competing with the Under-21 German National Team. She will be bringing the international experience and defensive awareness that we need to win big games and to take our team into the postseason.
"She is a good example of another talented athlete who was drawn to the Big Ten Conference and the opportunity to attend a world class university that offers the best in both academics and athletics," said Janney.
Nora Aucker • Midfielder/Defender • Selinsgrove, Pa.
A two-time First Team All-State selection from Selinsgrove, Pa., Aucker comes to Indiana from Selinsgrove Area High School. There, Aucker helped lead her team to four-straight District 4 Championships. Aucker is also a three-time First Team Heartland Athletic Conference honoree and was named The Daily Item Player of the Year after her junior campaign.
In addition to on-field achievements, Aucker earned PHSFHCA All-Academic Team accolades in all four seasons.
"Nora will help strengthen our defensive unit with her leadership and her competitiveness," said Janney. "She comes from Selinsgrove High School, which has a strong tradition of winning in central Pennsylvania."
Rother and Aucker will join Swope and Woods, who signed with the Hoosiers during the fall signing period in November.
Taylor Swope • Midfielder • Cincinnati, Ohio
Swope, a midfielder from St. Ursula Academy, was a two-time All-Ohio and First-Team All League selection. After a 10-goal and four-assist effort in her junior year, she was also named to the Harrow Sports All-Region All-America Team and the Cincinnati Enquirer Field Hockey Player of the Year.
Swope led her team in scoring with eight goals and six assists during her senior campaign, helping St. Ursula place third in the league.
Claire Woods • Forward/Midfielder • St. Louis, Mo.
Woods, a forward/midfielder from Nerinx Hall High School, knocked in a school-record 54 career goals - cruising past the previous mark of 40. In addition, her 39 assists rank second in program history.
For her accomplishments, Woods was a three-time All-Conference selection, as well as a two-time All-Metro and Team MVP honoree. Led by Woods, Nerinx Hall was a State Finalist in 2012 and a State Semi-Finalist in 2011. Woods also played in the Junior Olympics in 2012 and 2013, and was a five-time participant in the National Futures Championships.
