Elle Hempt will join the Hoosiers from Temple
|
"Elle is a fantastic addition to our Hoosiers team," said Janney. "She excels in the classroom, she has worked hard to improve her game as a defender, and she has the positive attitude and determination that will drive our team into the postseason. She has three years of eligibility left and I know she will enjoy the high level of play in the Big Ten Conference."
Hempt, a defender from Carlisle, Penn., joins the Hoosiers after spending the last two seasons with Coach Janney at Temple. Last year as a redshirt freshman, Hempt played in all 21 games and started eight for the Owls while helping hold opponents to just 1.7 goals per game. Off the field, Hempt maintained a 4.0 grade average and was a two-time NFHCA Scholar of Distinction.
"She embodies many of the great characteristics that I look for in our student-athletes," said Janney. "She is focused on teamwork and a relentless pursuit of excellence in everything she does. Her ability to lead by example on and off the field is outstanding. "
A three-time letterwinner from Cumberland Valley High School, Hempt served as team captain in her senior season and was named to the Pennsylvania Big 11 Team and the Mid-Penn All-Star First Team in her junior and seniors years.
"She has a strong hockey background from Cumberland Valley High School, her East Coast Field Hockey club and Temple University," said Janney. "She will strengthen our backfield with her defensive experience and I'm excited to have the opportunity to train with her."
Hempt will join four previous signees this fall, including goalkeeper Noëlle Rother, midfielder/defender Nora Aucker, midfielder Taylor Swope and forward/midfielder Claire Woods. Read about the rest of the signee class here.
