BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - With the 2014-15 academic year complete, we sat down with rising redshirt senior guard Nick Zeisloft to get his thoughts on his first season at Indiana and what he's working on for next year.
On workouts before semester break:
"We had a very positive month. A lot of good work. A lot of great individual work outs with Coach Crean and the coaches. It was very successful and productive and we got a lot better in those few weeks that we had after the season closed before we all left campus when classes were out."
On having a lot of guys back from last year that are able to work together over the summer:
"Well, last year the months of June, July, and August were crucial for our team and those months really helped us in terms of February and March of this year. Given that we know that now, we definitely can hone in even more and these next few months ahead of us and realize that these months mean just as much as November and December and January. They are important so we can be where we want to be at the end of February and March.
On being able to complete a degree from the Kelley School of Business as well as playing basketball at Indiana:
"It's been crazy. I'm actually going to come out with a Master's of Science in Finance (MSF) degree. I chose not to do the MBA right away and do that down the road at some point. But I'm very excited that I'm going to be done with my MSF and have my undergraduate degree in five years. It's been going really well. I enjoy classes. I enjoy the professors but it has been going really good and I'm really glad to be in the Kelley School of Business as a graduate student."
On his advice to others that want to improve their shooting:
"The confidence comes from work ethic and a lot of time spent in the gym working on your shot or working on your footwork. The more time you spend in the gym working on that will bring more confidence and better ability to knock down shots in the games when it is crunch time. The big thing is being able to do that when you are tired as well, and keeping the same approach to the shot. And if you miss a shot, don't feel like you need to change something. If you are a good enough shooter and have that knack for making shots, stick with it and don't worry about missing shots."
On what aspects of shooting are part of your workout regiment:
"It's not just about a lot of shots. I only count makes and never count misses. Some drills I have to make a certain amount before I can move on to the next spot. I switch it up a lot. Some times I only count the shots that 'swish' and don't hit the rim. I do a lot of different drills but all of them are designed to work on something to help me get better every day."
On the competitiveness with teammates:
"I love it. It is always fun to go up against James and Rob and Yogi and to shoot against those guys. It is a tough group of guys because we are all very good shooters and it makes you really want to have your shot on point."
On advice to new guys:
"I would tell them to be willing to learn, whether it is from your teammates or the coaches. We care about them a lot, even though they haven't been here yet. It is going to be a great time for them. They will definitely learn a lot and learn it fast. We are excited to have them. Those first couple months, you get a lot of things thrown at you, but it is all positive and they will benefit from it. Coach Crean and the staff really know how to help get them acclimated quickly and they do a great job with that."
