LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Indiana softball freshman Rebecca Blitz was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Second Team All-Midwest Region squad on Thursday, marking the first time an Indiana freshman has garnered All-Region honors since Monica Armendarez did so in 1995.
The All-Region accolade, which is voted on by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, is the first for the Hoosiers since Amanda Wagner was named to the Second Team in 2013.
The Birmingham, Ala. native was the only Hoosier to start and play in all 56 games this season. The centerfielder led the team with 59 hits, 41 runs and 15 stolen bases while starting primarily in the lead-off spot. In addition, she was second on the team behind junior Kelsey Dotson with a .438 on-base percentage.
Blitz recorded five games with at least three hits and finished the season on a four-game hitting streak, including a run of 15 combined hits in the last 15 contests of the year.
