Gerrity Receives First Team Capital One Academic All-District 5 Honors

Third Academic All-District selection in IU water polo History
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the Capital One Academic All-District 5 teams on Thursday, and Indiana women's water polo senior Rebecca Gerrity received first team honors. Gerrity is the third player in IU water polo history to receive First Team All-District recognition, joining 2014 recipient Shae Fournier and 2010 honoree Kelsey Campbell.
Those who receive first team All-District honors are eligible to be selected to the Capital One Academic All-American team. The first-, second-, and third-team All-America honorees will be announced later this month.
To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average. In addition, they must have participated in at least 50 percent of their team's games at the same position.
Gerrity is one of the most academically decorated players in IU water polo history. Gerrity was a two-time CWPA Scholar-Athlete selection in 2013 and 2014, as well as a two-time ACWPC All-Academic selection in 2013 and 2014. Gerrity, a senior majoring in Biology, is the first Phi Beta Kappa honors society student in IU water polo history. She plans to attend medical school after graduating in May of 2015.
Gerrity scored 40 goals and served 35 assists in the 2015 season, bringing her total to 120 goals and 68 assists in three seasons with the Hoosiers. Gerrity's athletic accolades include a CWPA Player of the Week award on February 2, 2015; a first team All-CWPA Championship team selection in 2014; and an honorable mention All-CWPA Championship selection in 2015. Gerrity averaged 1.2 goals per game in her 100 appearances with the Hoosiers.
Gerrity adds this outstanding honor to her Big Ten Medal of Honor award, which she received on April 28 of this year.
