ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Indiana outfielder Logan Sowers was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season, the Big Ten Conference announced Monday, tying for the most weekly recognitions of any player in the league this season. Sowers, who shared this week's honor with Purdue's Harry Shipley, has earned the distinction more than any other freshman in the Big Ten this season.
Sowers hit his first career grand slam in IU's 6-4 series finale win vs. Ohio State on Saturday to help the Hoosiers sweep the Buckeyes, while also recording the game-tying home run in the eighth inning of Friday's 6-4 series-opening victory.
Sowers batted in six (team high) and scored five of Indiana's 30 runs scored last week as the Hoosiers went a perfect 4-0.
Indiana now has 24 weekly conference honors since 2013 and seven this season, four of which are owned by Sowers. His four honors are tied with Maryland's Mike Shawaryn for the most overall in the Big Ten.
The sixth-seeded Hoosiers open Big Ten Tournament play on Wednesday, May 20, vs. No. 3 Michigan at 10 a.m. ET.
