BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Elizabeth Tong is no stranger to facing pressure under the spotlight.
The senior golfer has played in countless tournaments. She's competed in the U.S. Women's Open against the world's finest players and plans to turn pro by the end of the summer.
But Tong faced a different kind of pressure at Monday's Spirit of Indiana Showcase. The kind of pressure that comes with performing a hip-hop medley dance routine with her teammates on stage in front of her peers.
"I've never done anything like that," Tong said afterword. Part of her performance included a dance solo where she lip-synched the words to "Let It Go" from Disney's "Frozen," which Tong said is her favorite Disney movie.
"They stole the show," junior soccer player-turned emcee Jen Stanley said.
The women's golf team's dance routine was just one of a handful of performances put on by IU's athletes during the fifth-annual Spirit of Indiana showcase which took place at the IU auditorium.
IU distance runners Amanda Behnke and Kelsey Duerksen teamed up with track and field's Andrew Miller on guitar to sing "Hallelujah" to kick off the night's performances.
Miller was back out a short while later to accompany track and field's Michelle Adeniyi as she sang "Ordinary People."
Junior swimmer Tanner Kurz rounded out the musical acts with the playing of Dean Brody's "Brothers" on guitar.
IU's coaches were well represented in the performances, too. Ed Beathea, Teri Moren and Barry King teamed up to share dramatic readings of funny Tweets sent by various IU Athletes.
Moren had a hard time maintaining her composure as she read a Tweet from one of her own players, sophomore Alexis Gassion, as she took to Twitter to admit that she will sometimes "wonder if that kid in the Dreamworks logo has caught a fish yet."
Jokes aside, the Spirit of Indiana Showcase was one of the few times during the year representatives from all 24 IU sports could meet together and celebrate what they've accomplished in the last 12 months.
