BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University will host a leg of the 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Summer Circuit this weekend with play beginning on Saturday, July 25.
There will be a large contingent of IU men's and women's tennis players in the tournament this weekend, as three women's players and five men's players will be in the field.
For the women Stephanie Smith, Sarah Baron and incoming freshman Natalie Whalen will compete. For the IU men's team, Alek Davila, Daniel Bednarczyk, Elliott Yee, Chris Essick and Stefan Lugonjic will compete in the tournament. Last year Lugonjiic won the singles title.

Nearly 30,000 men and women have competed in ITA Summer Circuit events since it began in 1993. The circuit provides college (and junior and alumni) players the opportunity to compete in organized events virtually year round. Although the primary focus of the circuit is to provide incoming freshman and collegiate players the chance to compete in the summer months, for NCAA compliance purposes, the events within the ITA Summer Circuit are categorized as "open"; therefore anyone is eligible to compete in these events as long as he/she is a current ITA member.
The ITA Summer Circuit is currently made up of nine regional circuits (Southern California, Northern California, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Central, Mountain, Southeast and Texas) and all nine regions consist of four consecutive open tournaments played during the month of July, leading up to the ITA National Summer Championships in Bloomington, Ind., from Aug. 9-12. The circuit is the brainchild of Indiana head women's tennis coach Lin Loring and provides college tennis players the opportunity to compete in organized events virtually year round.
