BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's basketball program announced its non-conference schedule for the 2015-16 season on Wednesday. The Hoosiers will play in three non-league tournaments, including the Preseason WNIT, and host a Big Ten/ACC Challenge game in Assembly Hall.
The schedule includes four opponents who played in the postseason a year ago with an opportunity to play against addtional 2015 postseason teams as part of the Preseason WNIT field.
IU will begin the year at home against Tennessee State, an NCAA Tournament team last season, in the opening round of the WNIT on Nov. 13 at Noon ET. The outcome of that game will determine when and where the Hoosiers will play next in the tournament.
The second round of the Preseason WNIT will take place on a date between Nov. 15-17 with the semifinals scheduled for Nov. 19 and the championship contest on Nov. 22. If consolation play is necessary, those rounds will take place on Nov. 20 and Nov. 21.
The Hoosiers will then take on in-state foe IPFW in Fort Wayne on Nov. 24 before heading to Nashville, Tenn. to take part in the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament. IU will play a pair of games at Vandy on back-to-back days on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28. Opponents and game times are still to be determined, but along with IU and Vanderbilt, Austin Peay and Ohio will also participate in the event.
IU hosts Georgia Tech in the 2015 Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Dec. 2, marking the first ever meeting between the two programs, before making the short drive to Terre Haute to battle Indiana State on Dec. 8.
Samford will make its Assembly Hall debut on Dec. 11 to battle the Hoosiers before IU heads south to play in the Florida Sunshine Classic on Dec. 20-21 to battle a pair of 2015 postseason teams. Indiana will take on Miami on Dec. 20 before facing West Virginia on Dec. 21 in Winter Park, Fla. Both of those contests are set for an approximate 7:15 p.m. tip.
Indiana will finish its non-conference slate at home against Ivy League opponent Yale on Dec. 28. Big Ten play will begin on Dec. 31.
"We are excited about the challenge of our non-conference schedule this year," head coach Teri Moren said. "Along with being part of an impressive field for the Preseason WNIT, we will be hosting a very good Georgia Tech team in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. In addition, we will go on the road to compete against several teams that played in the postseason last year. Without question, this schedule will prepare us for an arduous Big Ten season."
All remaining tip times and television/streaming information will be announced as that information becomes available. Stay tuned to the Indiana women's basketball schedule page at IUHoosiers.com for future updates.
