Harris, IU Women Dominate at Intercollegiates

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's cross country team, led by true freshman Haley Harris, ran to a first place finish and a perfect team score at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet on Friday hosted in Terre Haute. IU took the top five individual scoring spots in the Big State standings and had eight runners in the top 10 overall.
It marked the seventh-straight title for the women's team at the annual event. Harris clocked in at 17:52 with her first place finish on the 5K course as the rest of the Hoosier scoring pack came in closely behind her. Brianna Johnson finished second in a time of 18:08, followed by Maggie Allen in third (18:10), Chanli Mundy in fourth (18:16) and Amanda Behnke in fifth (18:17). Those five combined for IU's 15 team points.
Other top 10 finishers for the Hoosier women included Katherine Receveur (7th, 18:25), Madison Stenger (8th, 18:29) and Kelsey Harris (10th, 18:45).
The IU men placed third in the Big State race as just five points separated first through third places. IUPUI won the event with 40 points, Indiana State was second with 43 and the Hoosiers totaled 45 points.
Less than 20 seconds separated all five IU scorers as Rorey Hunter led the way for Indiana on the 8K course with a sixth place finish in a time of 25:53. Josh Roche finished eighth in 25:59 followed by Owen Skeete's ninth place finish in 26:02. Jason Crist (10th, 26:03) and Kyle Duvall (12th, 26:12) also scored for the Hoosiers.
In the women's open race, IU's Olivia Hippensteel took first place overall in a time of 18:55. Running unattached, Matt Schwartzer won the open men's race.
IU will next compete at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 4.
