Indiana vs. Western Kentucky
September 19, 2015
• Indiana is 3-0 for the first time since 2010 and the 16th time in school history.
• Overall, the Hoosiers have won four straight games for the first time since 1993.
• Senior quarterback Nate Sudfeld recorded the sixth 300-yard game of his career and his second this year. Sudfeld threw for the second-highest mark of his career with 355 pass yards (363 vs. Navy, 9/7/13) on 20-of-27 with three touchdowns to three different receivers. This is his fifth career game with three-or-more passing scores.
• Sudfeld has now thrown 39 career touchdowns (fourth all-time IU list) and 5,244 passing yards (seventh). He is the seventh Hoosier to throw over 5,000 career passing yards.
• Jordan Howard recorded his 14th career 100-yard game, his eighth 150-yard game and his second career 200-yard game. He has rushed for at least 100 yards in seven straight games dating back to last year. The junior finished with 203 yards on 31 carries (6.5 average). He added three receptions for 38 yards.
• Sophomore Devine Redding carried the ball 23 times for 79 yards. Together, Howard and Redding have rushed for over 200 yards in three consecutive games.
• The Hoosiers have had a 100-yard rusher in 15 of their last 16 games and have rushed for over 200 yards in 13 of their last 15 games.
• Redshirt junior Ricky Jones collected his second career 100-yard game – both this season – finishing with 126 yards on five receptions. He capped the Hoosiers 99-yard drive in the second quarter with an 18-yard touchdown.
• The 99-yard drive covered 4:53 and took 13 plays, all season-longs. Indiana later added a 97-yard drive, which covered 3:53 in 11 plays.
• Redshirt junior Mitchell Paige opened the scoring with a 91-yard punt return, the fifth-longest in school history, with 12:35 remaining in the opening quarter. The score was the first by an IU punt returner since Shane Wynn's 58-yarder against Indiana State on Aug. 29, 2013.
• Paige's return is the longest by a Hoosier since Lance Bennett's 94-yard TD vs. Michigan State on Sept. 25, 2004, and is currently the second-longest in the nation this season.
• Paige was just getting started, as he was the recipient of a 36-yard touchdown pass from Sudfeld in the third quarter. He now has a pair of receiving scores on the season and caught two balls for 41 yards in the contest.
• Sophomore Simmie Cobbs, Jr. had his first career touchdown reception with 6:06 remaining in the third quarter. He finished with three receptions and 50 yards.
• Four Indiana tight ends combined for six receptions and 91 yards. Fifth-year senior Michael Cooper and redshirt sophomore Danny Friend each had two receptions, while senior Anthony Corsaro and sophomore Jordan Fuchs added one apiece.
• True freshman safety Jonathan Crawford delivered the first two interceptions of his career in the third quarter, both of which led to Indiana touchdowns. The interceptions were on two consecutive pass attempts by Western Kentucky.
• Indiana has seven takeaways (three INTs) this year and is plus-5 in turnover margin. The Hoosiers have scored 41 points off of their opponents miscues.
• Fellow true freshman safety Jameel Cook, Jr., has the team's other INT, which he returned 96 yards for a score against Florida International last week.
• IU did not allow any points in the third quarter for the third straight game and has outscored its opponents 44-0.
• Senior defensive end Nick Mangieri kept the Hilltoppers off the board in the third with a blocked field, the first of his career and the team's second in 2015.
• Sophomore Rashard Fant led the way with a career-high eight tackles (all solo). He added one pass breakup for his fifth of the year.
• Redshirt sophomore Griffin Oakes capped off the Hoosiers first half scoring with a 27-yard field, which puts him in a tie for 10th on the program's all-time list with 19 (David Freud, 1976-78). Oakes is 6-of-7 on the season and 19-of-25 (76.0 percent) in his career. The Greenwood, Ind., native added six touchbacks on seven kickoffs and has 18 on 24 kickoffs in 2015.
• Indiana owns a 3-0 advantage in the all-time series against Western Kentucky.
• True freshman safety Jameel Cook, Jr., made the first start of his career.
• Linebacker Marcus Oliver, center Jake Reed, bandit Zack Shaw and left tackle Jason Spriggs served as Indiana's game captains.
• The Hoosiers wore the script Indiana helmet for the first time ever.
