BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team will travel to the lone star state this week for the Delta Zeta Classic, hosted by Texas State in San Marcos, Texas.
The Hoosiers will matchup against Lamar and UTSA on Friday, Sept. 4 and take on tournament host Texas State on Saturday Sept. 5. All matches will be video streamed and have live stats.
The Hoosiers are coming off a 2-1 performance in the Blue Raider Bash that saw them play three five set matches, with wins against Bowling Green and Middle Tennessee State.
Blue Raider Bash Awards
Seniors Amelia Anderson and Courtney Harnish were named to the All-Tournament Team at the Blue Raider Bash. Anderson led the Hoosiers with 67 kills, including a career-high 26 in the Hoosiers opening match victory against Bowling Green. Harnish paced the Hoosiers defense with 60 digs (4.0/set) while also registering 19 assists and two aces.
Coming Home
Senior Chante George will get to play in her home state this weekend. George, a native of San Antonio, Texas, will have lots of family and friends cheering for her and the Hoosiers this weekend. George is third on the team in kills after the opening weekend with 27 and had eight blocks in the Hoosiers 3-2 victory over Middle Tennessee State.
Bright Spots
Junior Allison Hammond played an increased role in the opening weekend for the Hoosiers. Hammond, who had 81 total kills a season ago tallied 50 through three matches with a .246 hitting efficiency. Junior Jazzmine McDonald, coming back from an ACL injury, contributed with 22 kills (.308 hitting percentage) and eight blocks. The Hoosiers defense was another bright spot with Kyndall Merritt picking up 33 digs. After not playing in 33 sets and totaling 97 assists, junior Makayla Lundin connected with the IU hitters for 116 assists in 12 sets (9.67/set). The newcomers also played well with freshman Elizabeth Asdell putting away 20 kills and Samantha Fogg with three aces.
On the Airwaves
This season Lucas Corley is the voice of IU volleyball. For both road matches and home matches Corley will have audio broadcasts and select BTN Plus matches. Lucas is also the host of the weekly coaches show with IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan.
Home Opener
The Hoosiers home opener is right around the corner. The IU volleyball team will open with by hosting the Indiana Invitational on Sept. 11-12 at University Gym. On Friday Sept. 11 the Hoosiers take on Virginia Tech at 7:00 p.m. ET. Saturday the Hoosiers battle Bowling Green (12:00 p.m.) and Northern Arizona (7:00 p.m.)
