IU Earns NSCAA Team Academic Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the fourth straight year, the Indiana Women's Soccer team was recognized by The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for excellence in the classroom.
"The amount of time our team puts in on the soccer field is almost doubled by the amount of time that they put in academics and it shows," said head coach Amy Berbary.
The award is given annually and encompasses the previous academic year. Through the guidance of academic advisor Eileen O'Rourke, the 2014-15 team marks the eighth time the program has garnered the award in its history.
Indiana also received the award in 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
"The uniqueness about our academics is we do name an academic captain as well as a team captain," said Berbary. "This past year it was Marissa Borschke and I thought she did a fantastic job as being that link between our exceptional academic advisor in Eileen O'Rourke and the coaching staff."
The Hoosiers were one of 859 programs (305 men, 554 women) to earn the honor. Of the 859 teams, Indiana was just one of 208 schools to have both the women and men's teams be recognized.
Wednesday's award is just the latest in a series for the Hoosiers, who earned the Herbert Cup last year in return for having the highest GPA of any team at Indiana in Fall 2014.
