BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Behind impressive performances by the Hoosier pitchers and an all-around offensive effort in game two, the Indiana softball team split a fall doubleheader with Indiana State on Friday at Andy Mohr Field.
"We are seeing very good things from our team so far," said Indiana head coach Michelle Gardner. "We will continue to develop as both individuals and a unit as we head into our final four games of this fall schedule."
Freshman Josie Wood tossed a complete game in the first contest of the day, giving up just one run to the Sycamores. However, the Hoosiers couldn't take advantage as junior Erin Lehman registered the lone Indiana hit and Indiana fell, 1-0.
Game two was a complete team effort as six different Hoosiers scored to give Indiana a 6-2 victory. Rebecca Blitz, Michelle Huber, Kassi Farmer, Shannon Cawley and Aimilia McDonough each recorded a pair of hits, including a pair of two-run home runs from Lehman and Farmer.
In the circle, freshman Tara Trainer threw a complete game, giving up just one earned run to the Sycamores.
Indiana is back in action next Sunday as the Hoosiers play host to the University of Indianapolis in doubleheader action beginning at 1 p.m.
