GLENCOE, Illinois – The Indiana men's golf team has posted a team score of 582 (289-293, +14) and is in 10th place out of 14 teams at the Windon Memorial, hosted by Northwestern University at Lake Shore Country Club.
Play was suspended due to darkness with the final group of the day on the 18th hole. That group will finish their second round Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. ET and then round three will continue at 9:00 a.m. ET.
Vea was steady in his first round, carding three birdies and three bogeys on his way to an even par round of 71. His second round also saw the junior post three birdies but he had six bogeys on his way to 3-over par 74. His total score of 145 (+3) is good for a tie for 32nd place.
Senior Max Kollin is one shot behind Vea at 4-over par 146 and tied for 41st after the two rounds on Saturday. After a double bogey on his third hole of the first round, he got back to even par with back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15. Over the remainder of his round, Kollin carded three bogeys and one birdie for a 73. He would match his first round score in round two, this time with one birdie, three bogeys and 14 pars on the scorecard.
Jake Brown, a redshirt freshman playing in his third collegiate tournament, continued his steady play to start this season. He went out in even par over his first nine holes in round one and then did the same coming in to post a score of 71. His second round was a little more adventurous on the scorecard, with three birdies, eight bogeys and seven pars for 5-over par 76. His total score of 147 is 5-over par and tied for 46th.
Brendon Doyle struggled out of the gate in round one, going out in 3-over par over his first nine holes. He would come in at 2-over par on the back nine for a opening round score of 76. He was able to get things rolling to start his second round, posting birdies on 12 and 13 to get to 2-under par early in his round. But he would bogey four of five holes in the middle of the round and went on to register a 72, giving him a total score of 148 and a tie for 48th.
Also tied for 48th individually is Andrew Havill after he logged back-to-back rounds of 74 on Saturday. He started off his first round going out in 5-over par, but rebounded nicely on the back nine with a 2-under par 34. In his second round, Havill notched four birdies, a team high, but was five-over on his back nine en route to the 74.
Competing as an individual in his first collegiate event, Jack Sparrow started his first round by posting bogey on six of the first seven holes to go out in 6-over par. But as soon as he made the turn, he switched gears and came home in 3-under par to finish with a 74. In round two, Sparrow once again registered three birdies to offset a double bogey and a bogey on his final hole, giving him an even par round of 71. He is 3-over par for his two rounds and tied for 32nd on the individual leaderboard.
