BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University forward Femi Hollinger-Janzen was taken with the 51st overall selection by the New England Revolution in the third round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft on Tuesday.
Hollinger-Janzen becomes the 44th Indiana player selected in the MLS Draft since the league's inception in 1996. IU's last draft selections came in 2014 when A.J. Corrado was taken by the San Jose Earthquakes and Nikita Kotlov was selected by the Portland Timbers.
"It's an exciting day for Femi and the IU soccer program," Indiana head men's soccer coach Todd Yeagley remarked. "The New England Revolution is a great club. Several IU greats have played for the Revs over the years. Femi hasn't hit his potential and I am confident he will grow and develop within the Revs organization. We are proud to have Femi join a distinguished list of IU players who have been selected in the MLS draft."
Hollinger-Janzen was drafted with the 10th pick in the third round. Hollinger-Janzen will join former Hoosier standout Lee Nguyen on the Revolution.
Hollinger-Janzen recently completed his tremendous, four-year career with the Hoosiers. The Goshen, Ind. native was a two-time First-Team All-Big Ten selection and a two-time All-Region honoree – including first-team accolades this past year.
During his freshman season in 2012, Hollinger-Janzen made an immediate impact for IU, helping the team win the program's eighth national title. Hollinger-Janzen was named to the College Cup All-Tournament Team after scoring the game-winning goal against Creighton in the College Cup semifinal. Hollinger-Janzen was also named to Soccer America's All-Freshman Second Team and to the Big Ten's All-Freshman Team.
For his career, Hollinger-Janzen started 60 of the 88 matches in which he appeared for the Hoosiers, totaling 22 goals and eight assists. This past season, Hollinger-Janzen set career highs with eight goals and five assists.
