BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Soccer head coach Amy Berbary announced Tuesday the addition of assistant coach Mike Regan to her staff. Regan joins the Hoosiers after four seasons as an assistant coach at Drake University.
"Mike is a tremendous addition to our coaching staff," said Berbary. "He will be a great example for our student-athletes in this program with his outstanding character, knowledge of the game and extremely high standards on the field. He has a strong history of success and we are looking forward to him having an immediate impact on our team."
Regan's primary focus at Indiana will be on the team's overall technical development, with a specialty in the area of set pieces. Additionally, he will assist Berbary in offensive execution.
"I am very grateful to Coach Berbary for the opportunity to come to Indiana University," said Regan. "The challenge of coaching in the Big Ten is something I am very much looking forward to and I am delighted to be joining such a forward thinking program and staff. The environment at IU clearly allows for student-athletes to reach their full potential and I look forward to building relationships within the department. Both myself and my family are very excited to be a part of the Bloomington community."
During his time at Drake, Regan coached 22 All-Conference members, seven Missouri Valley Conference All-Tournament selections, two NSCAA All-Region picks, as well as a MVC Player of the Year, a MVC Defensive Player of the Year and 2014 Haitian National Team member Generve Charles.
Last season, Regan and the Bulldog staff were named the 2015 MVC Coaching Staff of the Year after guiding Drake to its first regular season conference championship since 2006.
The Bulldogs advanced to the MVC tournament semifinals in each of the last three seasons, with the 2013 appearance marking the first since 2009.
Off the field, Drake earned three NSCAA College Team Academic Awards, registered the highest GPA in the athletic department in Spring 2013 and had five MVC Scholar-Athlete selections during Regan's tenure.
Prior to joining the Bulldogs, Regan was the head coach of the North Iowa Area Community College Men's Soccer team, where he led the program to a 74-17-6 record in five seasons. Three times named the NJCAA/ICCAC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year, Regan led the Trojans to a No. 11 final spot in the 2011 NSCAA/adidas National Rankings, a season which saw the team win a conference title and earn a spot as a NJCAA Region 11 finalist for the third time in four years.
In his five seasons at the helm, Regan coached four NJCAA All-Americans, 41 All-Region selections and 35 NJCAA All-Academic honorees.
Regan currently serves as the head coach of the Iowa ODP '98 age group, where he led the team to the National Tournament in 2015. Additionally, he holds a National "A" Coaching License from the United States Soccer Federation.
Prior to moving to the United States, Regan had an extensive playing career in England that included a number of professional league clubs as a youth player and semi-professional stops at Staines Town FC and a role as team captain for the Ottawa Fury.
Regan earned a bachelor's degree in Wellness from Waldorf College in 2009 and a master's degree in Sport Management in 2011 from California University of Pennsylvania.
He and his wife, Maradee, have two sons, Kieran (5) and Liam (2).
