Hoosiers Set to Host Home Openers

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 53 Indiana men's tennis team will be at home for the first time this season as they host Virginia Commonwealth and Marquette on Saturday Jan. 30.
The Hoosiers will take on VCU at 11:00 a.m. and battle Marquette at 6:00 p.m. Both matches will be played in the IU Tennis Center located across the parking lot from Assembly Hall.
Last week the Hoosiers opened the dual match season at the ITA Kickoff in Chapel Hill, N.C. Although the Hoosiers fell to No. 10 North Carolina and No. 35 Drake, they felt they played well in both matches.
"UNC was a tight match, and I felt that we were very competitive in a lot of sets," IU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. "Against Drake we were also points away in the singles, and we even had match points in the doubles. Overall I don't think that's too much to be concerned about, it's just part of the process to getting more match tough."
VCU comes into the match having won its first four matches and Marquette is 1-0 on the season.
"We need to be mentally locked in for both of these matches," Wurtzman said. "These teams will come in with confidence and we have to match their energy."
The Hoosiers will have posters to give away for fans and will also be giving away two tickets to the men's basketball game later that day. Additionally there will be an adult clinic with the team at 5:00 p.m.
