Hoosiers, Monette in ITA Rankings

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The initial Oracle/ITA Collegiate Rankings were released and the Indiana men's tennis team finds itself sitting at No. 47 in the first team poll of the 2016 spring season. Senior Sam Monette is ranked No. 27 in singles rankings.
In the Ohio Valley regional rankings Monette is No. 1 and Elliott Yee No. 14 in singles and Monette and Daniel Bednarczyk are No. 1 for doubles.
Monette had a productive fall season as the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Champion and a victory over the No. 7 seed at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.
Monette teamed up with senior Daniel Bednarczyk to win the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship in doubles as well.
Other highlights of the fall season included junior Matthew McCoy as a Big Ten Championships semifinalist and sophomore Raheel Manji win the singles title at the Wake Forest Invitational.
In IU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman's first season at the helm, the Hoosiers went from ninth to fifth in the Big Ten and the team climbed as high as 27 last season in the ITA Rankings.
The Hoosiers open the 2016 spring season at the ITA Kickoff in Chapel, Hill, N.C. on January 23, where they battle North Carolina.
