CHICAGO – The Big Ten Conference released their 2016-17 Preaseason All-Big Ten and Preaseason Player of the Year honors this evening live on the Big Ten Network, and the Hoosiers had a pair of honorees.
Junior guard James Blackmon Jr. and sophomore Thomas Bryant were both named to the Preseason All-Big Ten team along with eight other players from around the conference.
Blackmon played 13 games last year before a knee injury cut his season short. He was averaging 15.8 points and shooting 46.3 percent from the 3-point line before his injury. For his career, he has averaged 15.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and has shot 40.9 percent from behind the arc in 46 games.
Bryant has been named a preseason All-American by numerous publications entering the 2016-17 season after he garnered Third Team All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Freshman honors last season. He set new IU records for field goal percentage (68.3) and also led the conference in that category.
The Hoosiers won the 2016 Big Ten Championship, the 22nd in program history and their second conference crown in the last four years. That total also ties them for the most among any Big Ten program.
Additionally, Bryant was named Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year by NBCSports.com.
