Five Hoosiers on NBA Opening Night Rosters

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – With the 2016-17 NBA season getting underway last night, we take a look at the five Indiana players that have made opening night rosters across the league.
Eric Gordon
This upcoming season will be Gordon's ninth NBA season and first season with the Houston Rockets after signing a 4-year, $53 million dollar deal this summer. He previously spent the past five years with the New Orleans Pelicans/Hornets and the three years before that (first three years of his career) with the Clippers. The Clippers drafted Gordon out of Indiana with the seventh overall pick in the 2008 draft. In Gordon's only college season he averaged 20.9 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.4 apg, and 1.3 steals on 43.3 percent from the floor, 83.4 percent at the free throw line and 33.7 percent from behind the 3-point line. Gordon's best NBA season was his last with the Clippers in 2010-11. He averaged 22.3 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 4.4 apg, and 1.3 steals on 45 percent field goal shooting and 36.4 percent from behind the arc.

Victor Oladipo
This upcoming season will be Oladipo's fourth NBA season and first season with the Thunder after being traded from the Magic this summer. He spent the first three years of his career with the Orlando Magic after being drafted No. 2 overall in the 2013 draft. His best NBA season so far was his second in the league, where he averaged 17.9 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 4.1 apg, and 1.7 spg on 43.6 percent shooting from the floor and 33.9 percent from behind the arc. In his junior year at Indiana (his final year) he was named first team All-American and won Big Ten defensive player of the year. That year Oladipo averaged 13.6 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 2.1 apg, and 2.2 spg while connecting on 59.9 percent of his shots from the foor and 44.1 percent of his 3-point field goals.

Cody Zeller
This upcoming season will be Zeller's fourth NBA season and also his fourth season with Charlotte after being drafted No. 4 overall in the 2013 draft. His best NBA season thus far was the 2015-16 season when he averaged 8.7 ppg, 6.2 rpb, 1 apg, 0.8 spg, and 0.9 bpg in addition to shooting 52.9 percent from the field. Zeller spent two years at IU during which he was named second team All-American, first team All-Big Ten and won Big Ten Freshman of the Year. During his sophomore year Zeller averaged 16.5 ppg, 8 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1 spg, and 1.3 bpg while connecting on 56.4 percent of his shots from the floor.

Noah Vonleh
The 2016-17 season will be Vonleh's third NBA season and second with the Trailblazers. He spent his rookie year with the Hornets, who drafted him No. 9 overall in the 2014 draft. In his only season at IU, Vonleh was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and Third Team All-Big Ten. He averaged 11.3 ppg, 9 rpg, and 1.4 bpg. He got this season off to a solid start last night, going 5-of-5 from the field and finished with 11 points to help the Blazers to the win.

Troy Williams
After going undrafted in the 2016 draft, Williams battled through summer league, training camp and preseason to land a spot on the Memphis Grizzlies opening night roster. During the preseason, Williams led all rookies at 13.2 ppg. Williams spent 3 years at IU and in his final season he was named third team All-Big Ten and averaged 13.3 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 2 apg, 1.1 spg, 0.8 bpg on 51.3 percent shooting from the floor, and connected at a 34.7 percent clip from the 3-point line.
