BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana redshirt junior linebacker Marcus Oliver earned Big Ten co-Defensive Player of the Week honors and true freshman running back Tyler Natee was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the league announced today. Oliver is IU's first defensive honoree since John Pannozzo (Sept. 5, 2005), while true freshman husky Marcelino Ball captured freshman honors following the team's week two win over Ball State.
Oliver set career-highs with two sacks, his first career multi-sack game, and 2.5 tackles for loss in the Hoosiers (4-4, 2-3 Big Ten East) 42-36 victory over Maryland. He matched his career-best with two forced fumbles.
The Hamilton, Ohio, native set the program career mark and now owns 11 forced fumbles. Oliver's final force set up an Indiana touchdown, which put the Hoosiers up 35-24 in the fourth quarter. He added eight tackles, seven solo.
Natee played quarterback and running back and spearheaded IU's 414-yard rushing attack, the second-highest total in Kevin Wilson's tenure and the most for IU against a Big Ten opponent since a 489-yard performance at Michigan State on Nov. 10, 2001.
He set career-highs with 18 rushes for 111 yards, his first 100-yard game. Natee added a 2-yard touchdown following Oliver's second takeaway.
Indiana (4-4, 2-3 B1G East) travels to Rutgers (2-6, 0-5 B1G East) on Saturday, Nov. 5. Kickoff is set for noon EDT at High Point Solutions Stadium (52,454; FieldTurf) on BTN.
