Byron Hurt Speaks to Students on "A World without Sexual Violence"

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University Athletics Excellence Academy, in partnership with the Division of Student Affairs, hosted award-winning documentary filmmaker, published writer, anti-sexist activist, and lecturer, Byron Hurt, for the program "A World without Sexual Violence" on Tuesday night.

Hurt challenged students to see sexual violence as an issue that affects all of us and to begin today incorporating ways that they will be partners in the prevention of sexual violence on our campus and in our community. The presentation was very interactive and thought-provoking, serving as a call to action and understanding for all Indiana University students.
About Byron Hurt
Hurt is the former host of the Emmy-nominated series, "REEL WORKS with BYRON HURT." His documentary, "Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes" premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was later broadcast on the PBS series Independent Lens.
The former Northeastern University football quarterback was also a founding member of the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) program, the leading college-based rape and domestic violence prevention initiative for college and professional athletics. Hurt also served as an Associate Director of the first gender violence prevention program in the United States Marine Corps.
