BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University men's soccer's Tanner Thompson and Christian Lomeli earned weekly honors from the Big Ten on Tuesday, the conference office announced.
Thompson was named co-Player of the Week, while Lomeli was named Big Ten Defender of the Week. Along with his league honor, Thompson was also named Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week, as well as College Soccer News National Player of the Week.
Thompson, a senior from Loomis, Calif., had a tremendous week for the Hoosiers, scoring four goals in helping IU beat Saint Louis and No. 13 Michigan State.
Against the Billikens, Thompson recorded his first career hat trick, scoring all three of his goals in the first half. In the win over the Spartans, the senior scored the game-winner with less than five minutes left, helping Indiana clinch the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament.
Lomeli was outstanding in goal for the Hoosiers, making one save and posting a shutout in the 5-0 win over Saint Louis. Against MSU, Lomeli allowed only one goal, making a pair of critical stops in helping IU to the 2-1 victory.
The No. 5-ranked Indiana Hoosiers will host the Northwestern Wildcats in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1:00 p.m. ET at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Tickets for the match can be purchased at IUHoosiers.com.
