BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University men's soccer team earned the No. 7 overall seed in the 2016 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament and will face the winner of Akron and Villanova in a second-round match on Sunday, Nov. 20 in Bloomington.
Game time for Sunday's match is 1:00 p.m. at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth (18 & under) and college students.
The berth for the Hoosiers is the team's 30th-straight bid to the NCAA Tournament and the 41st overall in the program's history. Indiana has an NCAA-best .729 (84-30-4) winning percentage in the tournament, while the 84 victories is also tops in the NCAA.
IU has appeared in 18 College Cups, which leads all Division I teams, and won its eighth national title in 2012.
Since the NCAA began its current seeding format in 2003, the Hoosiers have earned a top-16 seed in 12 of the 14 tournaments.
The Hoosiers are coming off a hard-fought match against Wisconsin in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals that saw the Badgers advance in penalty kicks. On the season, Indiana has posted a record of 11-1-7.
The Hoosiers again had one of the toughest schedules in the country in 2016, playing eight matches against seven NCAA Tournament teams, having faced Maryland twice. Of the seven teams, five earned national seeds – Maryland (No. 1), Louisville (No. 4), Stanford (No. 5), Notre Dame (No. 13) and Butler (No. 15).
The Big Ten had three teams earn berths to the NCAA Tournament this season. Along with No. 1-seeded Maryland, Michigan State earned an at-large bid for the league.
Indiana will face the winner of Akron and Villanova, who play in Akron, Ohio on Thursday. IU is 24-7-2 all-time against Akron, with the teams last playing each other in 2013. The Hoosiers have never faced Villanova on the pitch.
