Coach, headed on the road to Ann Arbor this weekend, the Wolverines at hand. What was the message in readying for another top-10 battle?
"The defense in continuing to build. The last couple games we can finish stronger, better, but there was a lot of good football. When you are playing a team that is playing at the high end of college football, we do not need to play perfect but we have got to play better. We have got to play well, and we got to eliminate negatives as much as we can. There is always going to be some negative plays or mistakes that happen, but they have got to be minimal. We have to win in all phases. The kicking game cannot let us down, offense, conversions, turnovers, defense, big plays. We are going to need to play solid in all three phases, on the road, great team, great challenge to put on all three phases."
Do you play any differently going on the road against a team like Michigan?
"We need to be smart. You can sit on your heels too much which allows them to gain momentum, you can be so aggressive that you have risk-reward and have the negative. There is just a balance. I think you get a feel for who has the ball, the field positioning, the weather and the down-and-distance situations. We have to find a way to get off to a good start. You are never going to take their crowd out of the game, but you do not want to fall behind. You do not want to fall behind in any place, especially on the road, in a tough place, playing a great team. We have to do everything we can to play well and and do the best we can to get in the fourth quarter."
With the potential quarterback change for Michigan, how do you prepare for that?
"You have to be careful because their playmakers and players are what they are. Maybe the next quarterback comes in and likes certain throws more or not due to his style of play. The offense is not going to change. It might be more of this guy likes more corner routes but the other guy likes more more curl routes and things like that. The offense is not going to change, the personnel is not going to change and and I believe, having known this kid because we had recruited him, the next quarterback up does run a little bit more, so you have to account for that. We will also have to account for Peppers when they get into their wildcat package."
