BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Golf head coach Clint Wallman has announced the addition of Mary Parsons (Delta, BC, Canada) and Wint Phoo (Angela) Aung (Yangon, Myanmar) for the 2017-18 season.
"We are thrilled to announce our incoming freshman class of Mary Parsons and Angela Aung," Wallman said. "Both are exceptional players, great students and more importantly will represent IU on and off the course with distinction."
Parsons played for St. Thomas More Collegiate High School where she led her team to a AA Provincials second place finish as a sophomore and third place finish as a freshman. In addition, she finished as the runner-up at last year's AA Provincials and finished fifth overall in 2015. Parsons is also a member of the Team Canada's 2017 National Development squad. This past summer, Parsons shot a career-low 66 (-10) to win the CN Future Links Pacific while also picking up medalist honors at the B.C. Junior Girls Championship and MJT Boston Pizza National Championship. She also came in runner-up at the B.C. Women's Amateur Championships and in the 2015 CN Future Links Prairie Championship.
"Mary is an explosive player who has the ability to go low at any time," Wallman said. "She has had an outstanding junior career and I fully expect her to make a big impact in the lineup right out of the gate."
Aung is the first female from Myanmar to sign a Division I golf scholarship as she inks her letter of intent to join the Hoosiers next season. Aung comes to Bloomington from the Heritage Academy in Hilton Head, South Carolina where she came in runner-up at the IJGT Junior at Outfield Golf Club where she posted a low of 147 in the two0round event. She also posted a plethora of top 10 performances in the 2015-16 season including a third finish at the Hilton Head Open (79-77, 156) and tied for third at the Thanksgiving Day Classic at TPC Sawgrass (83-85-84, 252) while also finishing fourth overall at the Laurel Spring School Major Championships (81-78, 159). Aung also tied for fourth overall at the IJGA Invitational (78-83, 161) and was fifth overall at the IMG Junior World Qualifier (76-72, 148).
"Angela is an amazing player whose length and accuracy will consistently put her in position to score every time she tees up," Wallman added. "She makes really good decisions and more importantly is not afraid to make birdies."
