2016 #IUVB Season in Review

The 2016 Indiana volleyball team achieved great team and individual accomplishments.

IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan recently expressed her thoughts about the season.

"I think we put in a lot of really good work starting in January," Dunbar-Kruzan said. "This was a great season. It wasn't just a good season. We made steps to the standard we want to play in this program. Our seniors have left a mark on this program and they are always going to be here. It's now the job of our returning players to keep moving forward with it. I'm very proud of this team and what they achieved in the 2016 season."

2016 Season Highlights

Team
• Most wins (17) in a season since the 2010 season.
• First season to finish over .500 (17-16) since the 2010 season.
• 9-0 start for just the fourth time in program history. Best start since the 12-0 start in the 2010 season.
• 11 non-conference wins the most since the 2010 season. Seventh time in 26 years with 10 or more non-conference wins.
• 34 RPI after non-conference portion of schedule.
• Two wins over ranked opponents (No. 13 Michigan, No. 22 Ohio State) are the most in a season since the 2010 season.
• Beat four teams that made the 2016 NCAA Tournament (Cleveland State, Princeton, Michigan, Ohio State).
• Won the Indiana Invitational, San Francisco Invitational and Hoosier Classic. This is the 10^th straight year the Hoosiers have won at least one pre-season tournament.
• Finished the regular season second in the Big Ten in aces at 1.51 per set.
• Third best hitting efficiency in school history (.239). Best since the 1995 season.
• Hit .400 or better in four matches on the season. Against Princeton the Hoosiers set the third best hitting percentage in school history for a three-set match (.500). The .500 hitting percentage is the third best in school history for any match.
• 21 blocks in win over No. 13 Michigan is the fourth best in school history for a four-set match.
• The 21 blocks vs. Michigan is seventh in school history for any match. Also the most in any match since 2006.
• 10 aces against South Alabama is fifth in school history for aces in a three-set match.
• 172 aces on the season the most since the 2002 season.

Individual
Career
• Megan Tallman set school record for assists in the rally-scoring era (3,711). Fourth most in school history for career assists all-time.
• Taylor Lebo set school record for aces in the rally-scoring era (130). Fifth most in school history for career aces all-time.
• Lebo finished her career sixth on the Hoosiers all-time list for career digs with 1,171.
• Lebo is just the second player in school history to finish career in top-six in career aces and career digs.
• Jazzmine McDonald finished career with the second best career hitting percentage all-time in program history at .294.
Season
• McDonald set the second best mark in school history for single season hitting percentage (.364).
• McDonald's .325 hitting percentage in Big Ten only matches is the fifth best mark in school history for a single season.
• Lebo finished the season ninth on the Hoosiers all-time list for single season digs at 413.
• Deyshia Lofton set the fourth best mark in school history for solo blocks for freshmen at 18.
Match
• Lebo set the fourth best mark for digs in a three-set match with 22 against IUPUI.
• Lebo tied the fifth best mark in school history for aces in a four-set match with five against Marshall.
• Lebo tied the second best mark in school history for aces in a three-set match with five against South Alabama.
• McDonald tied the third best mark in school history for blocks in a four-set match with 10 against Michigan. Her 10 blocks are also tied for the 11^th most in school history for any match.
• McDonald tied the second best mark in school history for blocks in a four-set Big Ten match with 10 against Michigan.
• Hayden Huybers became the first Hoosier since Samantha Thrower in 2011 to have a perfect hitting match when she went 10-0-10 against Northwestern in her first career Big Ten match.
• 13 additions to career, season and single match record book.

Other
• McDonald earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors.
• McDonald finished fourth in the Big Ten in the regular season in hitting percentage.
• Lebo finished sixth in the Big Ten in the regular season in aces.
• Allison Hammond finished eighth in the Big Ten in the regular season in aces.
• Tallman finished ninth in the Big Ten in the regular season in aces.
• Hammond finished eighth in the Big Ten in the regular season in kills.
• Kendall Beerman finished second in the Big Ten among freshmen in hitting percentage.
• Beerman finished fifth in the Big Ten among freshmen in kills.
• Beerman became the first Hoosiers since 2014 to win a Big Ten weekly award when she won Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Oct. 31.
• Lofton finished fourth in the Big Ten among freshmen in blocks.
• Meaghan Koors finished sixth in the Big Ten among freshmen in aces.
• IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan won her 250^th career match and 150^th career match at Indiana. Dunbar-Kruzan ends the season with 263 career wins as a head coach.
