BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana husky Marcelino Ball and left tackle Coy Cronk have been named to the 247Sports True Freshman All-American team, it was announced today. Since 2011, IU has had 11 freshman All-Americans and 29 freshman All-Big Ten honorees.
Ball is third on the team and leads all Big Ten true freshmen with 73 stops (58 solo - 3rd on the team, T-5th in the B1G and T-56th nationally) in addition to 4.5 tackles for loss (8th), three takeaways and seven pass breakups (T-3rd). In the Maryland win, the honorable mention All-Big Ten selection had two takeaways, picking off his second pass and recovering a fumble.
He was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after collecting the first interception of his career against Ball State. The 17-year old has reached the eight-tackle mark five times in 2016 and has at least five stops in nine of 12 games.
Cronk has started all 12 games at left tackle, matching an Indiana true freshman record. He replaced 2015 All-American and current Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Jason Spriggs.
Indiana is second in the Big Ten in passing offense (277.9, 25th nationally), third in total offense (433.1) and yards per completion (13.5, 35th), fourth in completion percentage (59.6) and passing efficiency (133.8) and fifth in first downs (257).
Under Greg Frey's stewardship (2011-), the offensive line has produced four freshman All-Americans, seven freshman All-Big Ten selections, three All-Americans and 11 All-Big Ten honorees.
