BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Soccer redshirt senior Marissa Borschke was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Second Team Scholar All-North/Central Region on Thursday.
The award is the latest in a series of academic accolades for the defender and Burlington, Ontario native, who is also a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and was a 2015 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
To be nominated for NSCAA Scholar All-Region, a student must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average throughout his or her career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA College Services member and be a junior or above in academic standing at the current institution. The committee then reviews both the academic and athletic accomplishments of the nominees in determining the honorees.
This marks the second straight season a Hoosier has earned the honor after Sarah Stone also received a second team nod in 2015.
Borschke, a two-time team captain, ended her Hoosier career tied for third all-time in games played with 80 and played in every minute since being inserted into the starting lineup on Sept. 15, 2013 against Central Michigan.
This season, Borschke netted a pair of goals and anchored Indiana's backline on the way to earning Third Team All-Big Ten honors, the first Hoosier to earn the conference award since 2013.
Borschke will graduate on Dec. 17 with a major in Legal Studies and plans to attend law school next fall.
