Feeney, Scales Share MVP Honors at 2016 Football Banquet

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Fifth-year senior offensive lineman Dan Feeney and junior linebacker Tegray Scales shared Anthony Thompson Most Valuable Player honors at the 2016 Indiana football banquet on Friday evening. Head coach Tom Allen honored the team's seniors and handed out several awards inside the Henke Hall of Champions.
Feeney, Scales, fifth-year senior wide receiver Ricky Jones, redshirt junior linebacker Marcus Oliver and fifth-year senior wide receiver Mitchell Paige were named the team captains.
A first team Associated Press All-American, Feeney becomes just the fourth player in program history to be a two-time first team All-American and just the third to earn first team honors in back-to-back seasons: Anthony Thompson (1988-89), John Isenbarger (1967-68) and Pete Pihos (1943, 45).
The Orland Park, Ill., native additionally received All-America recognition from the Walter Camp Foundation and first team All-Big Ten following the 2016 campaign. Feeney became the fourth offensive lineman in program history to earn back-to-back first team honors: Don Shrader (1987-88), Bob Haak (1937-38) and Homer Dutter (1909-10). The last Hoosier to do so was wide receiver Tandon Doss (2009-10).
An Outland Trophy and Rotary Lombardi Award Watch Lister for the second straight year, Feeney was a consensus preseason first team All-American. He accepted an invitation to play in the 2016 Senior Bowl.
He started the final four weeks of the regular season at right tackle after 41 starts at right guard. In his 45 career games, Feeney has allowed just two sacks (3,278 snaps).
Scales earned second team All-America honors from SI.com and became first Hoosiers linebacker recognized on an All-America team since Van Waiters (3rd team) in 1987.
He leads the nation with 87 solo stops, and he is first in the Big Ten with 116 tackles (T-17th nationally) and 20.5 tackles for loss, which put him in a share of fourth nationally and in third on the program's single-season list.
Scales' eight double-figure tackle games also rank first in the league (T-2nd nationally). He has five sacks, a pick-6 and one forced fumble.
The Cincinnati native put together a streak of six straight 10-tackle games during the regular season. It was the longest streak nationally, the longest streak in the Big Ten since 2012 and the longest streak at IU since at least 1990.
