BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University men's soccer midfielder Tanner Thompson was earned First-Team All-America honors by the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) on Friday.
Thompson becomes only the eighth player in Indiana men's soccer history to earn at least three All-America accolades and is the first since Pat Noonan earned his third All-America certificate in 2002. The Loomis, Calif. native earned first-team honors in 2014 and was a third-team honoree by the NSCAA in 2015. Overall, 39 Indiana players have garnered a total of 64 All-America honors.
"Tanner joins an elite group of IU standouts to be named a three-time All-American," IU head coach Todd Yeagley remarked. "Tanner had an outstanding career at IU and will go down as one of our all-time special midfielders. We are proud of his accomplishments and his excellence on and off the field. We are excited for Tanner's next chapter as he begins his professional career."
A three-time First-Team All-Region selection, Thompson repeated as Big Ten Midfielder of the Year and earned First-Team All-Big Ten honors for the third-straight season. Thompson had a tremendous year for the Hoosiers, as the senior led the team with 18 points on the strength of eight goals and two assists. Thompson was also clutch for IU, netting four game winners.
