BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana men's soccer's Jack Griffith was given the prestigious Jack D. Tichenor Award, the IU Varsity Club announced on Friday.
The Tichenor Award is given annually to IU's top male and female student-athletes that hold the highest individual cumulative GPA among the entire Department of Athletics. Morgan Dye of field hockey was also given the award.
"We are very proud of Jack's performance in the classroom," Indiana head coach Todd Yeagley remarked. "He is excelling in a very challenging program within the Kelley School of Business. Jack joins an elite group of student-athletes as a Tichenor Award winner. Jack represents IU soccer with distinction."
Griffith becomes the fourth men's soccer student-athlete to earn the Tichenor Award, joining Barry T. Margolin (1987), Christopher Munroe (2005) and three-time winner Tyler McCarroll (2010-12).
The Jack D. Tichenor Memorial Award was established in 1984 to honor and acknowledge the student athlete who best exemplifies Jack D. Tichenor's ideals of scholastic achievement and athletic ability.
The IU Varsity Club honored 24 Hoosier student-athletes with its annual Scholastic Achievement Awards on Thursday at the men's basketball game.
Since 1979 the Varsity Club has presented the Scholastic Achievement Awards to recognize student-athletes from each of our varsity sports who have excelled in the classroom.
Griffith, a sophomore from Danville, Ind. redshirted in 2015 after playing in 18 matches for the Hoosiers as a freshman in 2014, tallying an assist while taking 12 shots on the year.
