No. 32 Notre Dame Outlast Hoosiers 6-1

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Indiana women's tennis fell to 32nd-ranked Notre Dame Saturday inside the Eck Tennis Pavilion as the Fighting Irish topped the Hoosiers 6-1.
Notre Dame (6-3) used a strong doubles team of Quinn Gleason and Monica Robinson, ranked 15th nationally as a pair, to win at the No. 1 doubles spot 6-1. Indiana (6-2) wouldn't go as easily in the No. 3 doubles spot but still fell, 6-4. With the Irish holding the doubles point, Kim Schmider and Stephanie Smith outlasted Mary Closs and Julie Vrabel 7-6 (7-2) at No. 2 doubles.
Singles began all gold and blue as the Irish raced out to straight sets wins at the No. 4 and No. 1 spots. At the No. 5 singles spot, IU's Natalie Whalen won her first set before losing the next two thus clinching the match victory for Notre Dame.
It was the same story at No. 2 singles as IU's Paula Gutierrez won her first set 7-5 before falling in the next two sets 2-6, 2-6. IU's Danielle Wolf rallied from a first set defeat at No. 6 singles to win the second set 6-4. Wolf would be outlasted in the third set 3-6.
The Hoosiers ended the day on a positive as Sarah McLean notched the only victory for the Hoosiers with a 2-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-8) win.
The Hoosiers are back on the road Feb. 24 as they take on the Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington, Ky. That match will begin at 10 AM.
