Williams B1G Honor; IU Moves Up In Polls

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – Indiana junior forward Troy Williams was named co-Big Ten Player of the Week the conference office announced today (Feb. 22). Williams helped the Hoosiers to a 2-0 record last week with wins over Nebraska and No. 16 Purdue.
Williams is the second Hoosier to earn conference player of the week honors this season, joining Kevin Yogi Ferrell (Jan. 25). For Williams, it is his second career player of the week accolade from the Big Ten, as he also received the honor on Dec. 22, 2014. Earlier this season, CBSSports.com awarded Williams the National Player of the Week honor on Dec. 14.
In the two games last week, Williams averaged 18.5 points and shot 75.0 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from behind the 3-point line. In the win over Nebraska, Williams posted 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting to go with five rebounds. Then in Saturday's win over Purdue, he registered 19 points and became the 49th player in IU history to surpass 1,000 career points and the eighth to do it under head coach Tom Crean.
In the USA Today Coaches Top 25 poll, Indiana jumped up from No. 21 to No. 15 this week. The Hoosiers moved up to No. 18 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll after sitting at No. 22 in last week's poll.
Indiana's next game is Thursday when they travel to Illinois to take on the Fighting Illini at 9:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.
