BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University head men's soccer coach announced the team's seven-match spring soccer slate on Tuesday, featuring a pair of high-profile matches to be played at Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington, Ind.
"Our spring schedule will allow our group to be challenged and tested as we look to build our team for next fall," Yeagley said. "These matches provide our staff with an opportunity to evaluate our positional depth, as well as experiment with players playing in new roles and positions. The quality opponents we face this spring will provide our team with an honest assessment as we prepare for our 2016 fall season. We are also able to play in large crowds on the road up in Indy and Ft. Wayne, two great cities that allow our IU alumni to come out and support their IU Soccer team."
The spring season got underway this past weekend, as the Hoosiers played both Xavier and Valparaiso in a pair of 9-on-9 matches in the Mellencamp Pavilion in Bloomington.
IU will also square off against the Indy Eleven in Mellencamp Pavilion on Friday, February 26. The Hoosiers' match against Indianapolis' pro soccer franchise will be closed to the public due to lack of space inside Mellencamp Pavilion.
On Saturday, April 2, Indiana will play host to SIU-Edwardsville at Armstrong Stadium at 7:30 p.m. IU last faced the Cougars in 2012, winning 2-0 at Armstrong Stadium.
Indiana will play Notre Dame in its annual spring meeting on Saturday, April 19 in Ft. Wayne, Ind. at 7:00 p.m. part of the Shindigz National Soccer Festival, the Hoosiers-Fighting Irish matchup will take place at the University of Saint Francis' Bishop John D'Arcy Football Stadium.
IU last played Notre Dame on August 30, 2015, when the Hoosiers fell to the No. 4 Fighting Irish, 1-0, in overtime at Armstrong Stadium.
Friday, April 15 features a meeting between Indiana and Butler at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind. The 7:30 p.m. match will be the Hoosiers' second visit to the 400-acre sports complex. IU played Butler to a 2-2 tie in Indianapolis during the 2015 regular season.
The highlight of the spring season for Indiana takes place on Sunday, April 24 at 2:00 p.m., with the Hoosiers playing their annual match against a Mexican Youth National Team side. This year's match will be held at Armstrong Stadium.
"We are very excited to once host this incredible event here on campus," coach Yeagley said. "It's a big challenge for our team to compete against some of the best young professional players from Mexico. The game day atmosphere is electric and we encourage everyone to come out and enjoy an International match at Armstrong Stadium."
This is the 10th meeting between the squads with Indiana holding a 3-6 record against its Mexican counterparts. Last year's meeting resulted in a 2-1 victory for Indiana.
Admission to the SIU-Edwardsville and Butler matches is free. Ticket prices and information for the match against Mexico will be available in the coming weeks. Ticket information for the match vs. Notre Dame will be available on NationalSoccerFestival.com.
