Indiana Picks Up Key Road Win at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – Indiana earned an important road victory at Nebraska on Wednesday night inside Pinnacle Bank Arena, 79-68. Tyra Buss and Alexis Gassion each scored 22 points to lead the Hoosiers as four IU players scored in double figures.
With the win the Hoosiers tie their most regular season wins (19) and most regular season wins since the 1997-98 season.
Amanda Cahill added 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field for the Hoosiers as Karlee McBride knocked in four 3-pointers to score 12 points.
Indiana (19-10, 11-6) connected on its first three 3-point field goals in the early going, part of an 11-2 run to build an 11-6 advantage just minutes into the game. The Huskers answered right back with a 10-2 run of their own to lead 16-13 with under three minutes let in the opening period.
A fast-paced first quarter closed on a high note for the Hoosiers as a Nebraska turnover led to a Buss runner at the horn as IU led 22-20 after one. For the game the Hoosiers forced Nebraska into 18 turnovers and held an 18-9 edge in points off turnovers.
With IU leading 30-27, Buss drove the left baseline and attempted a shot while the ball fell out of bounds as Buss fell on a defender. After an official review, Buss was called for a flagrant one foul. The Huskers took advantage hitting both free throw and then a field goal on that possession for a four points on one offensive trip to take a lead.
Nebraska (17-11, 8-9) added to that run to make it an 8-0 spurt for a 35-30 advantage. Indiana would battle back to trail by just one, 39-38, at the break.
IU hit 6-of-11 3-point field goals in the first 20 minutes as Nebraska shot 57 percent (16-of-28) from the field in the opening half. The Hoosiers hit a season-high 11 3-point field goals for the game, connecting on 11-of-19 (57.9 percent) from beyond the arc.
A Jenn Anderson putback layup and a McBride 3-point field goal started the third period for the Hoosiers for a 9-0 overall run extending from the first half to take a 43-39 advantage.
IU went on to hit seven of its first 10 shots of the third quarter and scored seven straight, capped by a McBride 3-pointer to make it a 57-46 Hoosier advantage with 3:34 remaining in the third.
Buss again hit a timely shot as a quarter closed as her 3-point field goal with seven seconds left in the third gave Indiana 60-51 edge heading to the final period.
The Huskers cut the deficit to six in the fourth on a couple of occassions, but would get no closer as IU held on for the road win.
IU shot 51.9 percent from the field, including 63.2 percent (12-of-19) in the second half.
Gassion's 22 points tied a career-high and the junior has scored in double figures in each of the Hoosiers last six games.
For Buss it was her 14th game this season scoring at least 20 points. Buss has reached 20 or more points in four of the last five games.
The Hoosiers will return home to Bloomington for a matchup with Penn State for the final regular season game of the year at 4 p.m. ET inside Assembly Hall.
