COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Despite a sixth-inning rally, Indiana Softball fell to No. 16 Texas A&M on Saturday evening, 4-2. The Hoosiers put up both runs in the penultimate frame, putting an end to the Aggies' 31-inning shutout streak.
A&M's Riley Sartain gave the Aggies the early lead as she knocked a two-run home run in the second inning. Another home run – this time a solo shot by Kristen Cuyos – pushed the lead to 3-0 in the fourth frame. Three batters later, Kaitlyn Alderink hit a RBI double to make it 4-0. Freshman pitcher Tara Trainer then entered the game in place of Josie Wood and picked up the final out of the inning on a single pitch. Trainer finished the game with 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.
Following a walk to sophomore Rebecca Blitz to lead off the sixth, sophomore Aimilia McDonough was hit by a pitch to put the Hoosiers in scoring position for the second time. IU took advantage as a single up the middle by senior Kelsey Dotson scored Blitz and put Indiana on the board, ending A&M's scoreless streak. The second Hoosier run came on a single by junior Erin Lehman to score senior Alyssa Rosati.
Trainer sat down the Aggies in order for the first time of the game in the bottom of the sixth, but the Indiana bats couldn't cut any further into the deficit.
The Hoosiers return to action tomorrow morning as they take on UTEP for the second time on the weekend. Indiana won the first meeting on Friday afternoon, 3-0.
