BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Coach Tom Crean's Indiana Hoosiers have captured a share of the program's 22nd Big Ten men's basketball title. The Hoosiers, 13-3 in the league, will close out the regular season up two games in the loss column over Iowa, Maryland, Michigan State and Wisconsin. The Hoosiers play at Iowa on Tuesday night (9 p.m., ESPN) and will host Maryland (4:30 p.m., CBS) next Sunday. IU was ranked 15th in the USA Today Coaches Poll and 18th by the Associated Press this past week. IU is 22-6 overall.
IU earned its second Big Ten title in four years (2013). The Hoosiers have not won multiple Big Ten titles in a four-year period since the 1991 and 1993 seasons.
Senior All-American candidate Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell joins IU greats Calbert Cheaney, Don Schlundt, Damon Bailey, and Kent Benson to rank among the top 10 scorers all-time at IU and win multiple Big Ten titles.
Ferrell established a new IU record with his 131st career start at Illinois on Feb. 25. He needs two assists to become the second player in Big Ten history with at least 1,800 points, 600 assists and 400 rebounds (Dee Brown, Illinois).
IU has posted 20-win seasons in four of the last five years and has a record of 116-51 since the 2011-12 season.
The 2016 Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament will be held in Indianapolis for the 10th time from March 9-13. Limited all-session tickets remain available at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse box office, Ticketmaster.com or charge by phone at 800-745-3000.
