BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana will be the No. 4 seed in the 2016 Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament this week at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, as announced by the conference office on Sunday.
As a top four seed in the 14-team format, the Hoosiers earn a double bye into the quarterfinals and will play their first game of the tournament on Friday, March 4 at approximately 2:30 p.m. ET. The tournament will take place March 2-6.
Indiana's No. 4 seed ties for the program's best seed ever in the Big Ten Tournament as the Hoosiers were a four seed just once before in 1998.
IU will have to wait on the outcomes of games taking place on Wednesday and Thursday to determine its quarterfinal opponent. On Wednesday, 13th-seeded Wisconsin will take on 12th-seeded Northwestern. The winner of that contest will play fifth-seeded Minnesota on Thursday, March 3 to determine who the Hoosiers will face on Friday afternoon.
Every game of the tournament will be televised with 12 games being featured on BTN, including Indiana's quarterfinal contest on Friday. ESPN will carry the championship game on Sunday, March 6 at 7 p.m. ET.
The Hoosiers enter the tournament coming off an historic regular season as IU finished the year 20-10 overall and 12-6 in Big Ten play. Indiana's 20 wins are the most regular season victories in program history as the 12 conference wins are the school's second-most wins in Big Ten play.
The Hoosiers are 15-20 all-time in the Big Ten Tournament. This year will mark the 12th time IU has played in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament and the program's first quarterfinals appearance since 2009. Indiana won the Big Ten Tournament title in 2002.
BIG TEN TOURNAMENT AND TICKET INFORMATION
Single-session ticket prices vary from $8 to $16 depending on the session, while all-session tickets are available for $75. Tickets will be available at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse box office, Ticketmaster.com or charge by phone at 800-745-3000.
