Indiana Postgame Notes vs. Michigan
Feb. 2, 2016
• Indiana is now 106-57 all-time against Michigan and have six of the last seven meetings with the Wolverines.
• After Michigan made a field goal to take a 24-20 lead with 9:05 left in the first half, the Hoosiers embarked on a mammoth 28-0 run over the next 10:29 to take a 48-24 lead. (view box score of that stretch). During the run, Michigan missed their last 12 shots of the first half.
• The Hoosiers are 9-1 in Big Ten play, their best start since the 1992-93 team opened conference play with 13 straight wins. They would go on to finish Big Ten play with a 17-1 record.
• The Hoosiers, who entered Tuesday's game tied for sixth in the nation in rebounding margin in conference games (+9.6) and went on to out-rebound Michigan by a 44-30 margin.
• IU shot 33-of-66 (50.0) from the floor in the game, the 14th time they have shot 50 percent or better in a game this season. The 61.3 percent is the 29th time in 46 halves that Indiana has shot better than 50 percent this season and the ninth time they have shot 60 percent or better.
• With a 10-of-30 effort from behind the 3-point line, it's the 12th time they have reached double figures in made 3-point field goals. In the previous two games, the Hoosiers had made just nine 3-point field goals combined.
• Indiana also made 33 total field goals, the fourth time in 10 Big Ten games that they have made at least 30 field goals in a game.
• At the free throw line, Indiana was 4-of-8 for the game. It is the fewest made free throws in a win since they made just three (3-of-4) against Michigan on Jan. 11, 2004.
• Through the first 23 games, Indiana has been out-rebounded just twice and have NOT been out-rebounded in Big Ten play this season.
• Indiana hauled in 14 offensive rebounds, the seventh straight game they have grabbed at least 10 offensive boards.
• Indiana held Michigan to 28.1 percent shooting from the floor (9-of-32) while the Hoosiers connected on 61.3 percent (19-of-31). The 28.1 percent is the lowest since holding Ohio State to 28.0 percent in the first half on Jan. 10, 2016.
• With 44 points in the paint, the Hoosiers reached 40 points in the paint for the second straight game (42 vs. Minnesota)
• Indiana trailed by a score of 15-4 with 14:30 to go in the first half. With the Hoosiers coming back to post the win, it marks the seventh time in the Crean era at IU that the Hoosiers have come back to win after trailing by 10 or more points. It's the second time this season, with the other being a 16-point comeback win against Notre Dame.
• Senior Kevin Yogi Ferrell led Indiana with 17 points to go along with nine rebounds (one turnover). He increased his career point total to 1,780, which remains seventh all-time at IU, trailing Alan Henderson (1,979) for sixth. Ferrell also improves to 5-1 in his career against Michigan.
• The nine assists give Ferrell 572 for his career, extending his school record.
• Ferrell was also 3-of-6 from behind the 3-point line in the game. Over the last 5 games, Ferrell is shooting 17-of-27 (63.0) from long range and 29-of-53 (54.7) in Big Ten play (10 games).
• Sophomore Robert Johnson was right behind Ferrell, finishing with 16 points and also grabbing six rebounds. In his three previous games, Johnson had scored a total of 17 points and made seven field goals (he was 7-of-13 tonight)
• Freshman OG Anunoby tied his season-high with 11 points off the bench. He also chipped in three rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in 19 minutes. It marks the third time he has totaled 11 points in a game this season – all of which have come in Big Ten play.
• Junior Troy Williams added nine points and four rebounds while playing just 14 minutes due to foul trouble.
• Junior Collin Hartman finished with five point, five rebounds and three assists. It is the seventh game this season with three assists for Hartman.
• Freshman Thomas Bryant contributed seven points and six rebounds in 21 minutes.
• In his return to Ann Arbor after transferring to Indiana from Michigan after earning his undergraduate degree at UM, Max Bielfeldt scored five points, grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and dished out two assists.
• Senior Nick Zeisloft made a pair of 3-point field goals and grabbed four rebounds to help the Hoosiers off the bench.
