Round One - Chattanooga vs. Indiana
Postgame Notes
• The Hoosiers improved to 65-33 in their 39 NCAA Tournament Appearances
• IU improved to 5-3 in NCAA tournament games since in the Tom Crean Era.
• IU led the way in the first day of the NCAA Tournament with a 64.9 field goal percentage and a 62.5% from three-point range. Their 99 points scored was second to Kansas which scored 105. Indiana also had a Thursday best 73.7 effective field goal percentage.
• The Hoosiers posted their national best 12th win of 25 points or more this season. They are tied with Michigan State and Stephen F. Austin for the NCAA lead. Kansas and Wichita State each have 10. The margin of victory was the most for the Hoosiers in an NCAA Tournament game since IU beat Wright State, 97-54, in the first round in 1993.
• Senior All-American Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell played in his 135th career game (all starts) tying an IU record for career games played. He shares with former teammate Jordan Hulls who played in 135 from 2009-13.
• Ferrell had his first career double-double with 20 points and 10 assists. It was his 31st career game of 20 points or more and his fourth career game of 10 assists or more. The 10 assists move his school-record career total to 625. Ferrell made four 3-pointers in the game, giving him 267 for his career, 16 short of the school record of 283 by A.J. Guyton (1997-00
• Indiana's 99 points surpassed their 82.3 point per game season average, which ranked 11th nationally entering the game. IU is now 14-0 this season when surpassing their season average point total.
• The 46-37 halftime score gave IU its 14th opening half of 45 or more points this season … The Hoosiers assisted on 11 of their 17 made field goals in the first half, while UTC only managed two assists in the opening half … IU's 23 assists for the game were the most since recording 27 in a January 19th win over Illinois.
• IU has now made at least eight treys in 10 of its last 11 games (only 4 in last game vs. Michigan). The Hoosiers have made at least eight 3-pointers in 27 of its 33 games. The 10 threes came on 17 attempts, for a 58.8 percentage which betters their season average of 41.5 which ranked fifth nationally. The 10 three's made was the Hoosiers third highest effort in an NCAA Tournament game.
• Indiana shot 60.7 percent (17-of-28) from the field in the first half, its best opening half shooting performance since going 61.3 percent (19-of-31) on February 2nd at Michigan … IU's four first half 3-pointers matched the entire output from their loss to Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament.
• The Hoosiers continued their hot shooting to start the second half, making their first five shots of the period to take a 60-43 lead at the 16:44 mark.
• IU finished 64.9 percent from the field (37-of-57) for the game, its best shooting performance since going 67.2 percent in a November 30th win over Alcorn State. The Hoosiers have shot 50 percent or better in 18 of their 33 games. IU entered the game ranked third nationally with a 50.1 field goal percentage for the season.
• The Hoosiers 23 assists were their most in an NCAA Tournament game since beating George Washington in 1999 when they also had 23.
• Sophomore Robert Johnson's trey with 3:57 remaining in the first half gave Indiana a new school record for three-pointers in a season, breaking the previous mark of 319 set last season. With 10 threes in the game, the Hoosiers now have 326 for the season. Johnson had seven points and six assists and played for the first time in four games
• Freshman OG Anunoby made his first six shots from the field, including two second-half three-pointers…He also made all six shots he attempted in the Big Ten Tournament loss to Michigan and his last two attempts in a March 6th win over Maryland, giving him 14 straight made field goals. His first miss came at the 4:12 mark of the second half.
• Anunoby's 14 points broke a career-high in points, set in previous game vs. Michigan (13)… This was his fifth double-figure scoring game of the year.
• All-Big Ten center Thomas Bryant scored 13 points for the second straight game, and has now scored in double figures in 23 games this season.
• Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year Max Bielfeldt scored 10 points in the game, his 13th double figure scoring game this season.
• Senior Nick Zeisloft made 3 of 5 from long range and had nine points in his fifth straight start.
• Junior Collin Hartman had eight points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals. He has scored 19 points in two career NCAA Tournament games.
Junior Troy Williams added 12 points and eight rebounds in 26 minutes.
• IU improved to 6-0 against 12 seeds and is now 11-4 as a 5 seed.
